Your home is a big investment. Routine hardwood floor maintenance is an investment in the comfort of your home.

Don’t settle for worn out dingy hardwood. Restore your hardware floor with Family Value Hardwood Services.

Our most popular and most valuable service is the Screen & Re-Coat. It is 1/4 the cost of a full sand refinish and in most cases the Screen & Re-Coat service can be completed in 1 day!

We provide free estimates without pushy salespeople. Read below for more details about our hardwood services.

What is the purpose of Hardwood Floor Screening and Recoating?

Your hardwood floors have a polyurethane top layer of finish that protects your floors from damage. A polyurethane finish is essentially a plastic coating, forming a nice finish on wood. Over time the top layer of polyurethane begins to deteriorate due to normal wear and tear.

When is a Screen and Recoating Required?

There are many reasons why the top layer of finish needs to be completely removed and reapplied.

  1. The polyurethane finish does wear over time and may have accumulated many scratch marks over time from furniture or pets.
  2. Your hardwood floors may just appear dull or scuffed due to normal wear and tear from daily foot traffic
  3. The top layer of the polyurethane finish begins to show signs of wear or is completely worn off in heavy traffic areas.

Screening and Recoating Process

The process starts by removing the original top lay of polyurethane finish. This is done using a screening disc and a low-speed buffer. We utilize equipment that collects the dust particles as we work so the contents in your home are protected.

The screen disc not only removes the top layer of finish, but it also abrades the floors to ensure a proper bond occurs when the hardwood floors are recoated with a new layer of polyurethane finish.

We use water based polyurethane products.  Water-based polyurethanes are more environmentally friendly and safer to use than solvent-based.

There are four types of polyurethane finishes: matte, satin, semi-gross, and high gloss. Our most popular finish is a Satin Finish.
